Dad and I went to one of my favorite places for a couple of days this week, Black's Camp in Cross, SC. Black's Camp is near the mouth the Diversion Canal, between Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie. The first day we spent at Black's we didn't fish at all. We just rode around the lake to gather material for my dad. Riding around the lake all day was a little bit chilly, but we made it through the cold. But the next day was a lot more fun! Here is the recap to day 2.
One of the best parts about Black's Camp is the great food, especially breakfast. When you are about to go fishing for the day and are not going to eat lunch, you need a good breakfast, and that is just what you get at Black's Camp.
We started the day with a long run across Lake Moultrie to go and fish around the dam. After we got there, we stopped by a little tackle shop to pick up some shiners to fish with. Shortly after we started fishing, Dad caught a nice 20-pound catfish. Right after he caught his I caught about a 10-pounder, and then right after that, I caught about the 2o-pounder that is in this photo. All of these fish were caught in about 25 minutes. Then we didn't catch any more catfish in the next hour.
As you might guess from the picture, after not catching a bunch of catfish, we went crappie fishing. We fished for them on deep brushpiles with live minnows. The first pile we hit didn't produce any fish, but the second one had a bunch of crappie on it. We caught about 15 crappie to finish the day.
Can't wait tell next time!
