When I was in the fishing basement getting ready for a possible trip to the pond, I decided that I was going to go with slightly heavier rods than I usually fish with because I knew there was a possibility that we where going to fish a different pond than usual. That pond is full of stumps.
After arriving on the property dad and I had to make the decision whether jump into my jon boat and fish the first pond on the property (the pond that I usually fish) where we where 90 percent sure that we could catch fish or to haul the canoe to the much more remote 3rd pond on the property that we thought had great potential but where much less certain.
It didn't take long at all to realize that we had made the right decision for our choice of pond. About fifteen minutes into the outing I caught about a two pound bass that really set the tone for the next hour.
Then with about fifteen minutes left to fish I hooked up with the fish that made the outing on of my favorite pond outings ever.
It is always great to catch a big bass, but it is way better when you can catch it in waters where you don't expect to catch anything that size. The biggest bass I had ever caught or seen in this pond before catching this fish was probably about 2 pounds, so catching this one in this pond was pretty awesome!
I caught the bass on one of my favorite lures a Smallmouth Green Xcalibur Square Lip crankbait.
