As an aspiring outdoor communicator there is no better way for me to learn how the business works than to be around the people who are a part of the outdoors industry. Being the son of an outdoor writer not only gives me the opportunity to learn from him every day, but it also gives me the chance to attend different events with him. At sucn an event, whether it is a fishing trip, outdoor conference, or a fishing tournament, I always have a great opportunity to learn new things and meet and build relationships with people in the industry. Yesterday was a perfect example of that.
Yesterday I was able to go along with my dad to the FLW Forrest Wood Cup, which is FLW's biggest event of the year and is one of the most coveted titles in professional bass fishing. This year's event was held on Lake Lanier with the expo and weigh-in taking place at the Gwinnet Center. I got to spend most of the day yesterday roaming around the expo with my dad getting the opportunity to meet some people and see some really interesting stuff. Probably my favorite thing that I got to see was what it is like back stage at a big event like The Forest Wood Cup. It was really cool seeing how everyone behind the scenes has there own part in the production to make it all work perfectly. Another thing that was really cool was that during the weigh-in I got to sit with all of the reporters who were all busily reporting the results of the tournament via blogs, twitter, facebook, etc. All in all it was a really fun day that was full of learning for me!
